Matagorda Yacht Club
Matagorda is a small town on the Texas Gulf Coast.
It is located close to where the Colorado River empties into the Gulf of Mexico.
The town was formed by Stephen F. Austin in 1827, while that part of Texas was still controlled by Mexico.
Both before and after the US Civil War, Matagorda was a relatively prosperous port town that was supported by rice and cotton farming as well as cattle ranching.
Numerous severe hurricanes had a devastating impact, and eventually, businesses and the Matagorda County seats were moved approximately 30 miles North to Bay City, TX.
